Unforgettable journey through the natural park of Chingaza and the canyon of the river Guatiquía. This trail takes us through all the climatic zones, from the cold wind of the moors (“páramo”) to the warm breeze of the eastern Colombian plains.

Trail Description

First we depart from Bogota towards Fómeque and then we cross the National Park of Chibngaza in 4x4 vehicle reaching a height of 3,800 meters. After that the car descends to San Juanito (3 hours) (1,925 m).

San Juanito is one of the few municipalities in the department of Meta that are not situated in the Colombian plains. It is located in the basin of Rio Guatiquia, 45 km from Villavicencio and on the eastern side of Chingaza Park at 1.900 meters above sea level.

The hike begins in San Juanito and it goes down along the river Guatiquía passing through rural areas, amazing waterfalls and landscapes of the canyon of the river. We will reach Villavicencio having the opportunity to appreciate the great variety of fauna, flora and water sources. We'll go with a local guide and a guide from Bogotá.  Caminantes del Retorno did this hike for the first time in 1989. We always work in accordance with the rules of National Parks and local communities.
